Downey Brand, a prominent law firm recognized statewide for its core practices in natural resources, litigation, and business law, is happy to welcome partner Jedediah (“Jed”) Gibson to the firm’s public utility regulation group.
Jed joins the firm following an almost 17 year stint at Ellison Schneider Harris & Donlan LLP where he was a partner. Jed assists a variety of clients in the energy sector and primarily specializes in developing and complying with California energy regulatory policy and practicing administrative litigation before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and California Energy Commission (CEC). The industries that Jed typically works with include retail providers of electricity, such as electric utilities, electric service providers, and municipal utilities, as well as developers and owners of conventional and renewable generating facilities, industrial clients, and trade associations.
“Jed is a great addition to our team,” said partner Michael Day. “Having consolidated our utility regulatory practice here at Downey Brand, we plan to continue to expand our practice by adding experienced practitioners, and Jed is a perfect fit as he has a wide variety of experience and has already worked with some of our key clients.”
Jed brings renewable energy expertise, particularly with respect to California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) policy, eligibility, procurement, and compliance issues. He also supports clients with power purchase and sales agreements, integrated resource planning, reliability and resource adequacy, interconnection agreements, and safety issues, including wildfire mitigation, distribution and transmission asset safety and compliance, and public safety power shutoff issues. Jed ultimately returns to Downey Brand after working for the firm as a law clerk in 2003, when he assisted with federal litigation and groundwater contamination.
“I’m thrilled to join the Downey Brand team. At Downey Brand I have the opportunity to build upon my energy practice and better serve my clients given the depth of legal expertise and other practice specialties Downey Brand provides,” Jed said.
Jed received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis School of Law in 2005. Prior to law school, he earned his B.S. as a Regents Scholar from the University of California at San Diego. Before entering the legal field, Jed also worked as a ski instructor in Lake Tahoe.
