Santa Clara Valley Water District Suspends Development of Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project

On August 26, 2025, the Board of Directors for the Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) voted to suspend the planned expansion of hte Pacheo Reservoir (Project) in southern Santa Clara County. Despite investing over $100 million and securing another $504 million in conditional funding from California’s Prop 1 Water Storage Investment Program, the Chair of the Board cited escalating costs as a reason behind Valley Water’s decision to shelve the project for now.
