United States Army Corps of Engineers Makes Unplanned Releases From Two Tulare Lake Basin Dams

Over the weekend of January 31, 2025, at the direction of the Trump administration, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (the Corps) released 6,300 acre-feet (AF) – roughly two billion gallons of water – from Lake Kaweah and Success Lake in the Tulare Lake Basin for unclear purposes and with little advanced notice to downstream local agencies in charge of flood management.
