State Water Board Adopts Water Conservation Regulations for Urban Retail Water Suppliers

On July 3, 2024, the California State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) adopted water use efficiency regulations for urban retail water suppliers under the statewide Making Conservation a California Way of Life framework. Starting January 1, 2025, the approximately 400 suppliers that supply water to 95 percent of Californians will be subject to annual urban water use objectives and conservation goals that the State Water Board estimates will achieve a savings of 500,000 acre-feet of water per year by 2040.
