California Public Utilities Commission Extends Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Operations Until 2030

On December 14, 2023, the California Public Utilities Commission (Commission) issued a decision in Rulemaking (R.) 23-01-007 that extends operations at Diablo Canyon Power Plant until 2030, subject to certain conditions. R.23-01-007 is a two-phased proceeding that follows Senate Bill (SB) 846, which directed the Commission to authorize extended operations for Diablo Canyon to ensure electric grid reliability and help keep California on track to meet its carbon-free energy goals.
