On November 4, 2024, the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) issued an Incidental Take Permit (ITP) to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) for the long-term operations of the State Water Project (SWP). The ITP provides take coverage for five species: delta smelt, longfin smelt, winter and spring-run chinook salmon, and white sturgeon, and will remain in effect until it expires on November 1, 2024. This ITP replaces the previous ITP for the long-term operation of the SWP that CDFW issued on March 31, 2020.
