Meredith Nikkel Named 40 Under 40 by Sacramento Business Journal

Downey Brand is pleased to announce that Meredith Nikkel, a partner in the firm’s natural resources practice, was recognized as a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Sacramento Business Journal.
40 Under 40 honorees are selected each year by a panel of independent judges who evaluate nominees—all professionals under the age of 40—based on their accomplishments in the workplace, leadership qualities, and civic service.
Meredith is a rising star in the dynamic world of California water law. She has quickly established a statewide reputation as a talented litigator who can handle the most complex water cases from water rights disputes and endangered species to convoluted areas of federal reclamation law and state surface and groundwater rights. Meredith’s approach to litigation and legal services focuses on identifying her clients’ ideal outcomes and pursuing those outcomes with vitality and dedication. She brings levelheadedness and careful analysis to dispute resolution at all levels from administrative proceedings before the State Water Resources Control Board to state and federal trial and appellate courts.

Outside of court, Meredith advocates for Sacramento’s beautiful urban forest as a member of the Sacramento Tree Foundation board of directors, which she joined in 2018 and currently serves on its NeighborWoods committee. Meredith is also an active member of the Association of Women in the Water, Energy, and Environment, and volunteers as a science docent at her children’s school.
