Downey Brand congratulates attorney Kristin Capritto on being named one of Kids in Need of Defense’s (KIND) 2025 Pro Bono Award honorees. KIND has recognized Kristin with its KINDness Matters Award for her exceptional dedication to representing unaccompanied children seeking safety in the United States.

KIND praised Kristin’s “remarkable commitment and unwavering resolve,” noting that she “goes above and beyond for her clients, making sure each child knows they matter.” For nearly a decade, Kristin has been taking cases referred to her by KIND, often managing multiple cases at once while supporting her young clients beyond the legal process by celebrating milestones, helping meet personal needs, and connecting them with community resources.

“Kristin’s compassion, empathy, and tenacity reflect the very best of what it means to serve,” said Rosario Paz, KIND’s Pro Bono Partnerships Program Manager. “Her approach to pro bono representation recognizes the whole person in a child.”

Downey Brand is proud to celebrate Kristin’s well-deserved recognition and her place among this year’s remarkable group of nationwide award recipients.

Each year during National Pro Bono Week (Oct 19-26, 2025), KIND honors the exceptional attorneys, law firms, and volunteers across the country who go above and beyond to ensure that unaccompanied and separated children seeking safety in the United States receive care, dignity, and expert legal representation. The KIND Pro Bono Awards highlight individuals and teams whose dedication and advocacy have helped children find safety, reunite with loved ones, and build brighter futures.
