Downey Brand Welcomes Madeline R. Weissman to its San Francisco Office

Downey Brand is pleased to welcome Madeline R. Weissman to the firm’s San Francisco office where she joins an outstanding team of environmental, land use, and natural resources attorneys.

Her practice includes contract negotiation, drafting, and review, compliance counseling, and litigation. Madeline has experience representing clients with a wide range of environmental and litigation issues related to the Clean Water Act (CWA), Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Prior to joining Downey Brand, Madeline worked at a Los Angeles law firm on real estate, land use, environmental, public agency, and public finance matters. She served as general counsel to Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, focusing on Brown Act compliance, inter-agency litigation regarding landfill remediation and land use planning, and wastewater permit compliance and litigation. Before working in Los Angeles, Madeline worked as a legal fellow for Accountability Counsel in San Francisco.

Madeline earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. While in law school, Madeline gained valuable experience interning for Lawyers for Clean Water, San Francisco Baykeeper, The Center for Biological Diversity, and the Sierra Club Environmental Law Program. Notably, she worked as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable A. James Robertson, II, of the San Francisco Superior Court. Madeline earned her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Psychology from the University of Oregon, Robert D. Clark Honors College.
