Downey Brand Partner Brad Carroll Named 40 Under 40 Honoree

August 4, 2025

Downey Brand is proud to announce that litigation partner Brad Carroll has been recognized as a 2025 Sacramento Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, celebrating the region’s most accomplished and influential young leaders.

A Sacramento native, Brad joined Downey Brand in 2015 and quickly distinguished himself as a skilled litigator, trusted advisor, and valued leader. Elected to the firm’s partnership just six years later, Brad represents clients in complex business disputes in trial courts and on appeal, with a niche practice in resolving sensitive internal conflicts among business owners, partners, and shareholders. His results speak for themselves—from securing multi-million dollar settlements to obtaining rare full appellate reversals. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for commercial litigation and named a “Top Lawyer” in business litigation by SacTown Magazine.

At the firm, Brad is a trusted mentor and contributor to Downey Brand’s collaborative culture, supporting attorneys at all stages of their careers and helping recruit top legal talent. He is also revered for his trademark sense of humor and for fostering camaraderie and fun among his colleagues.

Brad’s dedication to the Sacramento region runs deep. He is a 2023 graduate of the highly acclaimed Leadership Sacramento program and continues to help shape the program’s signature Law & Order Day. In 2024, Brad joined PBS KVIE’s Board of Directors. A lifelong viewer, Brad brings both passion and purpose to his board service, supporting KVIE’s mission to educate, enrich, and inspire through high-quality programming. A passionate animal advocate, Brad also spent six years on the board of RedRover and, alongside his wife, has fostered more than 75 (yes, 75!) cats through the Front Street Animal Shelter.

“Brad brings a rare combination of skill, humility, and humor to his work,” said Downey Brand Managing Partner Jan Fleener. “He is the kind of attorney, colleague, and community member who makes everyone around him better. We’re proud to see him honored for the many ways he contributes professionally and civically to Sacramento and is helping shape the next generation of leadership.”

40 Under 40 honorees are selected each year by a panel of independent judges who evaluate nominees—all rising stars in the local business world who have distinguished themselves in their companies, communities, and industries before their 40th birthday. This year’s judges were all former 40 Under 40 honorees as well as members from the Sacramento Business Journal’s editorial team.
