Downey Brand Elevates Alexis Ortega and Daria Gossett to Partnership

Downey Brand is pleased to announce that Alexis Ortega and Daria Gossett have been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2026.

Alexis Ortega is a member of the firm’s litigation department representing beneficiaries, trustees, executors, and other fiduciaries in trust and estate disputes. With nearly 20 years of litigation experience, her practice includes contested wills, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and trust administration matters. Alexis brings an international perspective shaped by her background in international law and her prior service as an Assistant Attorney General for the Republic of Palau.

Alexis serves on the board of Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance and is the membership chair of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers since 2015 and holds a J.D. with a Certificate of Distinction in International Law from Golden Gate University School of Law, as well as an LL.M. in International Law and American Legal Practice from Loyola Law School. Alexis is licensed in California and is also a British Solicitor.

Daria Gossett is a member of Downey Brand’s labor and employment practice, advising and defending employers on a wide range of workplace matters. Her practice focuses on complex employment litigation, including wage and hour class actions, PAGA matters, and claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and unfair competition. She also counsels employers on day-to-day personnel issues, compliance, workplace investigations, and employment policies.

Daria is a graduate of the 2023 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Pathfinders Program and has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2022 to 2025. She earned her J.D. from the University of California at Davis School of Law in 2017 and her B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2014.
