Associates Rank Downey Brand in the Top 10 “Best Midsized Firms to Work For” in the Nation

Downey Brand is pleased to announce that the law firm has earned top rankings in the 2020 Vault survey. Among other accolades, Vault recognized Downey Brand as 8th overall “Best Midsize Law Firms to Work For.” Downey Brand was one of two California law firms to make this prestigious list, which also included law firms in Boston, Chicago, Florida, Houston, New York, and Washington D.C.

This is the second consecutive year Downey Brand has been recognized by Vault in the “Best Midsize Law Firms to Work For” category. “We are thrilled to be among the top ten in the nation,” said Downey Brand’s Hiring Partner, Meghan Baker. “I am very proud of our firm and the associates who contribute to its success.”

Downey Brand also ranked high in several of Vault’s “Quality of Life” categories for midsized law firms, including:

  • 13th in Firm Culture
  • 15th in Compensation
  • 15th in Selectivity of Hiring Process

Downey Brand’s Vault rankings were derived from Vault’s Law Firm Associate Survey, in which associates were asked to anonymously rate their firms. For the category “Best Midsize Law Firms to Work For” Vault calculated the results using a formula that weighs associate ratings in 11 different areas:

25% overall satisfaction; 10% hours; 10% compensation; 10% business outlook; 10% substantive work; 10% culture; 5% associate/partner relations; 5% leadership transparency; 5% formal training; 5% informal training and mentoring; and 5% career outlook.

Downey Brand was also listed in Vault’s “Top 150 Under 150,” which highlights the best-known and most sought-after law firms with fewer than 150 attorneys.  The “Top 150 Under 150” is chosen by Vault based on its research rather than survey results.
