In an article for the Appeal-Democrat Managing Partner Scott L. Shapiro comments on the implications and consequences of the release of FEMA's flood zone maps for south Yuba County.

Despite more than $100 million and two years' worth of levee improvement work, much of south Yuba County was included in a flood zone map released this week by the federal government. The areas affected are Plumas Lake, Linda, Arboga and Olivehurst. These communities, especially Plumas Lake, are experiencing explosive growth and could see higher flood insurance rates if they remain in the federally mapped flood zones. County officials plan to meet with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials next week, hoping they can have already-completed work considered in the final maps.
