Downey Brand is proud to sponsor the inaugural Western Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference on May 4 & 5 at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada. Downey Brand attorneys, Nicole Granquist, Alexandra Lizano, Rebecca Smith, Robert Soran, and Dale Stern will be presenting.

Conference Overview

This inaugural program is part of a long-term effort by the National Agricultural Law Center to provide relevant and timely agricultural and environmental legal research and information to attorneys, lenders, land managers and farm appraisers, accountants, tax consultants, students, and other agricultural professionals involved in and impacted by the agricultural industry in the western U.S. The goal is to provide a premier legal education program combined with networking opportunities that ultimately help strengthen the agricultural industry.

The conference will be held in person at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada, and will also be livestreamed online for those who cannot attend in person. The conference is pending approval for more than 10 hours of CLE credit in Arizona, California, and Oregon.

May 4, 2023 – Veggie Wars: Legal Update on the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act & Related Produce Laws

  • Dale Stern will provide a legal update on the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act and relative produce laws.

May 5, 2023 – Prop 65: What Happens in California Isn’t Staying in California

  • Alexandra Lizano will present alongside Roux Inc. Technical Director Emily Goswami on Proposition 65.

May 5, 2023 – Moving Targets in Muddied Waters: Advising Farmers, Landowners, and Lenders Regarding Waters of the United States

  • Nicole Granquist and Robert Soran will advise farmers, landowners, and lenders regardings “Waters of the United States.”

May 5, 2023 – Dividing the Waters: Focus on States’ Approaches to Groundwater and Recent Developments

  • Rebecca Smith will discuss states’ various approaches to groundwater and recent developments.
