Co-Presenter, Capital Region Family Business Center's 2018 Annual Generations Conference

Downey Brand is pleased to sponsor this year’s Generations Conference, sponsored by the Capital Region Family Business Center, on January 29-30, 2018, at the Sacramento Convention Center.

Downey Brand partners Mary Martinelli, Sil Reggiardo, and James Robertson, along with Jerry Bucklin of Network Environmental Systems, Inc., are presenting “Death and Taxes are Certain, Divorce is Possible, and Business is Unpredictable – Are You Prepared” on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.

Overview

This session will cover family business succession planning from cradle to grave. The presenting panel consists of professionals who have counseled and assisted family businesses in some of the most difficult intersections of family and business. If the words “death,” “divorce,” and “succession” are uncomfortable, you may not yet have had the critical conversations with your family partners that this session will cover.

Surprisingly few family business principals have protected themselves and their businesses with basic, important agreements. This panel will discuss how vital these agreements are and how much can go wrong without them. Attendees will learn the importance of:
  • Creating effective and internally consistent business ownership governing documents;
  • Creating family law and estate planning documents to facilitate your ownership governing documents and your business succession plan; and
  • Creating business ownership governing, family law, and estate planning documents that result in equitable treatment of family members even if not all family members are treated the same.
