Three Downey Brand Attorneys Selected as Top Authors in 2023 JD Supra Readers’ Choice Awards

The annual Readers’ Choice Awards (in its eighth year now) recognizes top authors and firms for the visibility and engagement their thought leadership earned among JD Supra readers during the previous twelve months. This year, 303 authors were selected from over 70,000 contributors for their excellent and timely writing in 31 subject-specific categories.
Jeff is a partner in the firm’s Sacramento office where he represents clients across Northern California in trust and estate litigation and related civil disputes. This is Jeff’s third year being recognized as a JD Supra Top Author for his writing on trust/estate litigation. Jeff created, edits, and contributes to Trust on Trial, a leading blog on California trust and estate litigation that has gained prominence as an educational resource for lawyers and members of the public. In addition, he serves on the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the California Lawyers Association, where he is a co-host of the “Trust Me!” podcast. He also speaks frequently on trust and estate disputes to audiences of lawyers and related professionals.
Sophie is a partner in the firm’s environmental practice in San Francisco where she specializes in complex issues relating to California’s Proposition 65 and toxics law. In her Proposition 65 practice, Sophie defends clients from a variety of industries, such as food & beverage, apparel, cookware, personal care, consumer products, and retail (including grocers). She publishes a quarterly update dubbed Proposition 65: Trends and Highlights with her colleague Patrick and is a frequent presenter on Proposition 65 issues for trade associations, including the California Grocers Association, Association of Food Industries, and the Specialty Food Association.
Patrick is counsel in the firm’s Sacramento office where he represents clients in environmental compliance and enforcement matters. Patrick routinely handles water quality matters under the California Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act and federal Clean Water Act. In addition, Patrick frequently assists clients with environmental site remediation issues and toxic tort litigation, including actions under California’s Proposition 65. As noted above, Patrick co-authors Proposition 65: Trends and Highlights with Sophie and frequently writes about other emerging issues such as the regulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
