CCPA applies to for-profit companies that:

  • have over $25M in annual gross revenues,
  • annually receive information of over 50,000 CA residents or devices; or
  • derive 50% or more in revenue from selling CA consumer personal information.

Moderator

Jurgen Otten, VSP Global
Jurgen serves as the VSP Global Privacy Officer and is a Dutch trained lawyer who worked as legal counsel in several industries (manufacturing, outsourcing and software), including more than 10 years’ experience working with privacy laws (throughout The Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland).  Jurgen has been a VSP (privacy) counsel since 2014 (based in Amsterdam) and relocated to California in 2018 to work in his current role. Jurgen has several certifications (CIPP/E, CIPT and CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and has helped VSP Global implement GDPR, acting as Data Protection Officer (DPO).

Steve Hymas, Downey Brand
Steve is a partner in Downey Brand’s Corporate department and leads its Privacy & Data Integrity practice. He represents clients across a broad spectrum of industries in matters involving data protection and security, including confidentiality agreements, business association agreements, data retention policies, data testing agreements, agreements involving cardholder data, patient data, and other sensitive information. In addition to his civilian practice, Steve served in the California National Guard as a Judge Advocate where he served as cyber defense counsel, and before joining Downey Brand, he worked for several years with information technology companies such as Dell-Perot Systems, where he worked as a software engineer, manager, and privacy and quality expert for programs such as Six Sigma and CMMI.

Alex Ricardo, Beazley
Alex serves Beazley’s Cyber & Executive Risk Focus Group with managing business development initiatives for the Beazley Breach Response Program. Alex is based in New York City and provides support and guidance to Beazley insured-base from both a Breach Preparedness and Breach Response prospective. He brings to Beazley a twenty-three year background of service to Fortune 500 corporations and government agencies, addressing information leakage prevention, data/e-discovery, messaging encryption and internal threat management. Alex is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) which is a credential issued by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). This credential demonstrates Alex’s breadth of knowledge on privacy principles, general privacy law and information security best practices throughout the United States and around the globe.

Kevin Villanueva, Moss Adams
With more than 20 years in the information technology field, Kevin leads the IT Infrastructure and Security practice at Moss Adams. His practice areas include penetration testing, PCI DSS assessments, HIPAA compliance auditing, HITRUST readiness and validation assessments, among others, for clients spanning a wide variety of industries, including health care, government, not-for-profit, agriculture, and utilities. He has designed and conducted technology assessments based on the internationally recognized ISO/IEC 27001/2, NIST, and CIS standards, and has served as technical counsel on hundreds of technology security projects. Kevin has presented on cybersecurity topics for dozens of conferences and his work has been published in the SC Magazine, Puget Sound Business Journal, California Healthcare News, and North Bay Business Journal.

Brett Wait, Five Star Bank
Brett joined Five Star Bank in 2018 as Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for overseeing information technology, information security and data analytics. Wait brings over 15 years of community bank experience and information technology fluency. He has served in various leadership roles, including his current role as Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at Five Star Bank. Wait graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento.
