2017 brings new challenges for California employers.  Downey Brand partners Cass Ferrannini and Liz Stallard and associates from our employment law team will provide practical tips and suggest policy updates and strategies for complying with new federal, state and local employment laws.  Their interactive discussion will include review of recent employment-related legislation and significant court decisions impacting employers.  Specific topics will include:

  • Wage and Hour –  State and local wage changes, including the California minimum wage increase, overtime pay for the agricultural industry, expansion of the Fair Pay Act, and new paystub requirements
  • Hiring/Posting – New regulations addressing criminal history, immigration issues, and employment contracts
  • Leaves – New paid family leave rules, including local Sick Leave ordinances and the San Francisco Paid Parental Leave Ordinance
  • Discrimination – New regulations and rules on workplace accommodation, including single user restrooms
  • Trade Secrets – New federal law protecting trade secrets
