California Water 2014: The Difficult Task of Prioritizing Competing Interests During the Drought and Beyond

June 19-20, 2014

Argent Communications 29th Annual California Water Law & Policy Conference

Downey Brand is pleased to sponsor the 29th Annual California Water Law & Policy Conference on June 19-20, 2014 in San Francisco. Downey Brand water law attorneys Kevin O'Brien (Conference Co-Chair) and Christian Marsh are presenting.

The drought is on everyone’s mind, and rightly so. Despite late rains, the state’s potentially disastrous multi-year drought conditions promise a dry summer for farms, communities and ecosystems. Prioritizing water needs in California has always been difficult, and this year’s reduced rainfall makes solutions even more crucial.

With this in mind, this year we focus our attention on local, regional, state and federal ongoing drought responses. To let you know what California is doing now and what the plans are for the future, we have featured presentations from Mark W. Cowin, Director of the California Department of Water Resources, Felicia Marcus, Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board, Senator Lois Wolk, and representatives from U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, California Department of Conservation, California Department of Water Resources, Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, State Water Resources Control Board, and The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Agency.

Downey Brand presentations:

  • Kevin O'Brien is a featured panelist for "The Status of the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan: The Sacramento Valley Perspective"
  • Christian Marsh is a featured panelist for "The Cadiz Valley Groundwater: The Search for New Supplies and Storage in the Desert."  His presentation will focus on the management of the groundwater supply by county governments
