Chris Burton draws from his diverse background in commercial litigation, and outstanding legal research and writing skills, to efficiently and effectively resolve clients’ difficult issues.

With experience in a variety of practices, including bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, construction disputes, probate and guardianship, food and agriculture, water law, business disputes, and judgment collection, Chris competently contributes to the successful progression of all types of matters.

Chris is also committed to pro bono service, having contributed significant time and energy to disadvantaged individuals in a variety of matters.


  • Assisted with representation of businesspersons, as second chair, in two-week trial involving real property contract-based claims.
  • Prepared successful motion for directed verdict in contentious business dispute, resulting in dismissal of RICO claims.
  • Assisted with representation of large manufacturer in the defense of contract-based claims arising from alleged product deficiencies, including the preparation of multiple successful motions to dismiss in federal court.
  • Assisted with successful motion for preliminary injunction in contentious partnership dispute.
  • Assisted with successful opposition to motion to set aside default, preserving substantial judgment for corporate client.
  • Assisted with numerous complex judgment collection matters, resulting in settlements favorable to both large financial institution and individual clients.
  • Assist with representation of large water agency in complex water rights dispute.
  • Assisted creditor client in collection efforts and preservation of secured lien right prior to debtor’s bankruptcy filing.
  • Facilitated successful settlement of real property dispute, resulting in sale of million dollar-plus property, despite difficult procedural issues.
  • Facilitated resolution of commercial foreclosure action, on behalf of lender, via sale of subject property in full satisfaction of borrowers’ outstanding loans.
  • Assist individual homeowner plaintiffs in pursuit of tort-based claims against local utility and contractor.
  • Helped bankruptcy trustee to ensure the equal treatment of claims brought by victims of Ponzi scheme.
  • Assisted with representation of alleged incapacitated client, preventing stepson from taking control of client’s affairs as guardian.
  • Represented large financial institutions in the defense and resolution of various unfair debt collection practices claims.
  • Assisted with representation of bankruptcy trustee in significant Chapter 11 proceeding in Florida.
  • Assisted with representation of developer in Chinese drywall multi-district litigation in federal court.
  • Representing client pro bono, assisted local church in the defense of collection claims.
  • Representing clients pro bono, defended victims of mortgage rescue fraud scheme in eviction action, resulting in the clients’ retaining possession of their home.
  • Representing client pro bono, assisted with the return of a child to his father in the Dominican Republic, under the Hague Convention, after he was improperly removed to the United States.
